The Poet’s Dilemma

On Writing
by Mel Glenn

Sometimes,
it's an open window
with words floating in like a summer breeze.
Sometimes,
it's like taking dictation
with words spoken and heard in your brain.
Sometimes,
it's a river
with words flowing down your arm onto paper.
But sometiames,
it's a closed window,
a shut-down brain,
a dammed-up river.
I struggle for
the right word,
the right phrase,
the right image,
trying to catch all three out of mid-air.
I am successful.
Sometimes.
